Travelodge Glasgow Braehead

150 King's Inch Rd, Renfrew PA4 8ZL, UK – 0871 984 6372

Cheap, cheerful and basic, no different to any other Travelodge. Rooms and building tidy and clean. Plenty of parking. Very handy for Braehead Arena and shopping centre and retail park. Breakfast was absolutely terrible and definitely not worth the £7.99, do not add breakfast offer to your accommodation price, get it elsewhere. Appeared understaffed but what staff they had were helpful but fun off their feet.

As you would expect from a Travelodge it was immaculately clean. Tidy car park. Staff attentive. Very handy for the nearby Intu Braehead complex for shopping, climbing centre, curling, ice skating etc. About 39 minutes from the centre of Glasgow by bus depending on traffic. Breakfast is a hot buffet breakfast priced at £8.25 or you can choose a healthy option. All in all very good.

The Belhaven Hotel

15 Belhaven Terrace, Glasgow G12 0TG, UK – 0141 339 3222

Great room with lots of space for the family. Comfy beds and a nice big sofa for us to all lounge about on too. It's setting is an old grand house which has been transformed into a hotel and our room had a kind of standalone room-within-a-room housing the bathroom. The shower was a mixer one running off the taps which worked well and was nicely powerful. Breakfast was nice with a selection of cereal, yoghurt, juices, hot drinks and a toaster. There was also a choice of cooked breakfasts available. We had a lovely stay in this nice & quiet place which was ideally situated for us.

The Belhaven is a lovely hotel. Rooms are big and the staff are very friendly. The bus stop is right across if you need to get to city center and other attractions. It is in the vicinity of Glasgow Botanic Garden and the University. The breakfast served was good with a few options for vegeterians. The heating was not that great, but not bad either. Bathroom could be better. Otherwise it is a hotel worth staying.

Leonardo Inn Hotel Glasgow West End

Great Western Rd, Glasgow G12 0XP, UK – 0141 334 8161

Rooms were comfortable... Staff pleasant and helpful... Breakfast reasonable but a little more expensive than others at that night rate. While rooms are fine it is a bit tired in areas. A functional stay in the same bracket as a Premiere Inn. Very useful for Gartnaval Hospital if staying overnight to visit someone there.

All staff are extremely helpful & hospitable. Nothing is too much bother for them & I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. They have been outstanding.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Three Craws

501 Crow Rd, Glasgow G11 7DN, UK – 0141 950 4518

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Kitchen had ran out of salmon and sea bass. Maybe should have been forewarned before ordering. Had flatbread instead which was undercooked. Whole place could do with a good clean. Looking a but tatty....even a thick layer of dust on top of the till. Food reasonably priced though.

We've been going to The Three Craws for a few years now but recently been going more as our more frequent pub in the area has gone down hill. We tend to take the mother-in-law and we've never had a bad experience. Last week we went in as a party of 8 prior to us getting married and we all loved the food. The staff are extremely friendly and we always feel welcome. The menu has a big variety and there are a few very good vegetarian dishes too, the staff will easily modify a dish too if there is something you don't like. The mocktails are great and so is the price for the food, it's definitely value for money! Oh and the wife tells me I need to say that the salted caramel profiteroles are to die for!

The Esquire House - JD Wetherspoon

1487 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G12 0AU, UK – 0141 341 1130

This place is very big and has a great atmosphere in the evening - would definitely recommend coming with a friend for drinks. The food was alright, but definitely nothing to phone home over. They do have some vegan and vegetarian options, which is nice, but again they are pretty standard and just of average diner quality.

Nice friendly staff , good food, very reasonably priced. Great meeting place for friends

The Lord of the Isles

Kings Inch Road, Renfrew PA4 8XQ, UK – 0141 886 8930

Nipped in for quick dinner and to pass a couple of hours. On face of it excellent selection on menu and real ales. When it came to ordering was told no Pizzas or fish and chips left - so back to the menu to choose again! Food was average but very cheap!

Casual, comfortable and has a great selection of ales. Prices are excellent. Food is quick, nothing fancy. It has always been decent when I have visited. Staff were mostly very friendly. There are seats outside and when it’s sunny it’s lovely.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

We loved staying in this rental! The rental was cozy and a great place to relax. It's in walking distance to several pubs and public transportation. It is also in walking distance to the University of Glasgow. George and Catherine were incredibly kind and gracious hosts. We can't wait to visit again!!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
